Sandy Dennis was an American actress. She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966). Her roles also include the films Splendor in the Grass, The Three Sisters, Up the Down Staircase, That Cold Day in the Park, The Out-of-Towners (1970), God Told Me To, The Four Seasons, Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean; Another Woman, and The Indian Runner.

She was the daughter of Yvonne, a secretary, and Jack Dennis, a postal clerk. She was raised partly in Kenesaw and Lincoln, Nebraska.
