(CelebrityAccess) — Rapper Sean Kingston is facing criminal charges in Florida following his arrest for fraud on Thursday.
According to the Associated Press, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office said Kingston was arrested in California on Thursday, based on a warrant issued in Florida. The details of the allegations leveled against Kingston were not immediately available.
Earlier Thursday, investigators in Broward County also arrested Kingston’s 51-year-old mother, Janice Turner, during a raid of the rapper’s residence in South Florida. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office website shows that Turner is facing multiple charges, including grand theft, attempt to gain property worth more than $50,000 by fraud, and fraudulent use of ID without consent.
The Associated Press reported that some of the charges stem from a failed deal with Ver Ver Entertainment, who allege in a civil lawsuit that Kingston contacted the company in 2023 about purchasing a 232-inch and having it installed in his Florida home.
As part of the deal, Ver Ver alleges that Kingston bargained for a lower down payment by promising to do promotional work for the company, including a commercial with fellow music star Justin Bieber. However, Ver Ver claims that while the television was installed, the promised promotional work failed to materialize.
Kingston, whose real name is Kisean Paul Anderson, is currently on probation in Florida related to an interstate trafficking in stolen goods felony charge from 2023, according to Florida’s Department of Corrections.
Robert Rosenblatt, an attorney representing Kingston and his mother, told the Associated Press that he is aware of some of the allegations his clients are facing.
“We look forward to addressing these in court and are confident of a successful resolution for Shawn and his mother,” Rosenblatt told the AP.
