Onieogou is usually up at 5.30 am, and has an early breakfast of bacon and eggs. "Eggs are a good source of protein (both whites/yolk)," says Kurt Hong, MD, an internal medicine specialist at Keck Medicine of USC. "They also contain heart-healthy unsaturated fats and are a great source of important nutrients, such as vitamin B6, B12 and vitamin D."
Onieogou has a solid foundation in gymnastics thanks to a very active adolescence. "I was a gymnast for many years," she says. "I started off doing artistic gymnastics and then I did rhythmic gymnastics from the ages of 12 to 18. I also swam growing up. I was quite the athletic kid."
Onieogou enjoys black coffee to "keep [her] going". "There is a whole range of mechanisms through which coffee may reduce mortality and have these favorable effects on cardiovascular disease," says Peter M. Kistler, MD. "Coffee drinkers should feel reassured that they can continue to enjoy coffee even if they have heart disease. Coffee is the most common cognitive enhancer—it wakes you up, makes you mentally sharper and it's a very important component of many people's daily lives."
Onieogou enjoys ab challenges with her trainer, especially using plank variations. "Exercise can have a positive effect on our mental health," says exercise physiologist Katie Lawton, MEd. "When you see yourself getting stronger, it can be encouraging. It's also important to breathe while you plank to further engage your core muscles. Some breathing techniques can help boost your mood."
Onieogou has makeup on for 16 hours a day on work days, and never goes to sleep without thoroughly cleansing her face. "Taking makeup off before bed allows your eyes and eyelids to take a break from any potential inflammatory and irritating makeup particles," says Mona Adeli, MD. "Remove your makeup every evening with a gentle makeup remover. Be sure to remove your contact lenses first! Some people with sensitive skin or a history of allergies may benefit from a hypoallergenic makeup remover."
