Lynn Swann is an American professional football player, broadcaster, athletic director, and politician. He was a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL). He was voted Super Bowl MVP for Super Bowl X (1976), playing with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame. He was on the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition, from 2002 to 2005.
Lynn is the son of Mildred and Willie Edward Swann. His family moved to San Mateo, in the San Francisco area, when he was a small child, and then to nearby Foster City. He is married to psychologist Charena, with whom he has two children.
Lynn’s maternal grandfather was named Fred James McGarity.
Lynn’s maternal grandmother was Mammie Dean (the daughter of Osborne Dean and Ella White).
